Type Locality and Naming

It was named by Zhu Zaoling, Ge Meiyu et al in 1977. The type section is near the 76 km milestone, by the road from Shashuliang to Dayanmen in Tianba, 70 km west of the Chengkou County in northeastern Chongqing Shi.

Synonym: (大岩门组)


Lithology and Thickness

The formation, about 46 m in thickness, is dominated by light grey, grey green medium-to-thick bedded quartzose siltstone and yellow green shale intercalated with fine-graveled limestone.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It conformably rests on the underlying Tianba Fm

Upper contact

It disconformably contacts the overlying Permian Liangshan Fm.

Regional extent

It is exposed restrictedly in the northeastern Chongqing.

Fossils

It yields corals Zelophyllum, Favosites, brachiopod Eospirifer and bryozoa in the limestone of the lower part, and graptolite Dictyonema sp. in the shale of the upper part of the formation.
